The theme of the Zang Toi NYFW collection for Spring / Summer 2017 was “Glorious Giverny Garden”. Watching Toi meticulously direct his models during the rehearsal on the runway assured me that this show would be absolute perfection. I was right. As I crammed into uncomfortable positions among other members of the press in the media pit, I knew it would be a collection to remember.
Models entered the Zang Toi NYFW runway wearing lovely French-inspired looks with a beige, ivory and black palette. The 34-look show then flowed into cocktail and evening looks with beautiful splashes of lilac and violet. These colors were inspired by the famed Monet Bridge with cascading wisteria in Giverny Garden. He celebrated the classic French look while freshening the designs with a modern twist. The featured kimono sleeve was motivated by Claude Monet’s love for the Japanese culture. Models also wore stunning stilettos by Zang Toi Heels, the number one selling shoe collection in Malaysia.
The “Perfectly Parisian” look was created by the stylists for this show. Zang Toi collaborated with BeautyByRudy, using make up from Ubati New York and eyelash extensions from Battington Lashes. Eiji Salon created the elegant chignon using products from Macadamia Professional. Celebrity attendees included supermodel Carol Alt, Ethan Peck and Nadejda Savcova among others.
The “House of Toi” was established in 1989 and continues to be a driving force. Born in Malaysia and graduating from the Parsons School of design, Toi made his way into the scene with his unforgettable bold hues and designs. Toi has also teamed up with Papyrus to create a line of custom greeting cards. This is the first time a greeting card company ever partnered with a fashion house to create a line. What will be next for Zang Toi? I can’t wait to find out!
