TRENDS FROM THE RUNWAY: White on White

In Spring & Summer Trends by Jessica Faith Marshall

Those of you sitting at home watching live streaming of New York Fashion Week Runways, envies those who flew to New York City and sat front row in the Mercedez-Benz New York Fashion Week shows. But FashionMingle.net has more trend reports from this past week’s runway shows, to keep you updated.

White can be dangerous to some, to others it’s considered the essential of the season. This week in New York City, the runways and streets showcased layering white as a fall trend to wear this season. It’s a fresh approach to your wardrobe that works for every season, and every aesthetic. Opt for full white for formal occasions, for it has a glamorous appearance, and pairs beautifully with gold accessories and a nude or red lip. It is also ideal for work, because it breaks up the common black or gray suit in the office. Or even try styling the monochromatic white trend for a day out with a white structured or relaxed jumpsuit, paired with statement jewelry or a hardware belt, and a crisp, white blazer.

View the runway and street style photographs below, and consider layering your whites this fall.

Alon Livne

Formal White

Don’t shy away from a modern, clean gown in a full white fabric this fall, such as this Alon Livne ensemble. Style it with gold heels and a beaded clutch to finish off the perfect glamorous evening look. This approach freshens up the formal environment that is typically surrounded in dark, jewel tones.

Daytime White

Incorporate the white coat trend from the recent FashionMingle.net Fall Coat Trends article, and layer it over the shoulders with white separates underneath. I cannot stress enough how gorgeous modern, geometric gold accessories look with white. Take it from day to night by replacing the coat with glamorous fur.

Office White

This Vera Wang ensemble may be a bit formal for most offices, but try pairing your white blazer with a structured pencil skirt for the professional office. Style a white blouse underneath a monochromatic blazer and white skirt for a formal office.
