We’ve arrived at summer 2024 and our thoughts turn to what to wear as the temperatures warm up. If you’re planning out your holiday wardrobe or you have some events penciled in, it’s worth looking to the hottest trends to try in the coming months.

To help you, here’s a roundup of the latest styles to incorporate into your looks.

Drop waists

Jill Sander sent models down the catwalk in ribbed tank top designs and full skirts, while Ferragamo’s show also saw a lowered waistline. The drop waist has returned as a trend for this year, and it’s morphed from its 1920s origins. Now, it’s been infused with 90s-inspired spaghetti straps and 70s-style peasant skirts.

It’s set to serve us as a trend into the autumn too, when the summery drop-waist mini dresses are swapped for longer lines and teamed with chunky boots. But for now, you might want to try a few of these designs out and pair them with open-toe sandals for the ultimate summery outfit.

Red

Red has been everywhere in recent seasons, but spring/summer 24 is the time for this colour trend to shine. Vibrant maraschino cherry red was splashed across boiler suits at Burberry, while Gucci opted for sultry burgundy tones.

The shade you select will depend on how bold you want to go. You could nod to the trend with a splash of pillar box red in your accessories. You may want to go all-out in a beautiful burnt red dress. Take the time to play around with this colour to find the style that works for you.

Polo shirts

If you long to tap into your preppy side, you’re in luck. Polo shirts are set to be everywhere in the next few months, having been showcased at Miu Miu and Givenchy. Pair with stonewash jeans or riding leggings to channel your inner Sloane or tuck into a pair of chic tailored trousers for a refined look.

You might want to combine two trends here by opting for red polo tops or stick to neutrals.

Sheer skirts

Sheer skirts have been part of the lingerie-as-outerwear trend for a while now, but this style is set to be everywhere in the next few months. You can go as bold or demure as you like here, showing off your briefs or sticking to a short slip if you’re not feeling adventurous.

This is a trend that you might want to play around with to find your comfort level, but when you do you’ll be able to dress it up for the evening or team it with a chic blazer for a daytime look.

What trends will you try in the coming months?
