Being invited to a wedding is such a privilege. It means that the happy couple loves and respects you so much that they want you there on one of the most important days of their lives. Even if you know most of the people at the event, it is still important that you dress and behave appropriately. Here are some tips to help you earn the title of the perfect wedding guest.

Respect the dress code

You may notice on your wedding invitation that there is a dress code. Some couples choose to do this so that guests can be clear on the formality of the event. If there is one highlighted, make sure you stick to it. Common dress codes are black tie or cocktail elegance.

Some couples will opt for a colour palette for their guests to choose from instead. This can elevate the look of the wedding, making their wedding photos look absolutely stunning.

If you are struggling with what to wear, contact the bride or groom in advance of the big day and ask for their opinion on some outfit options. Just remember not to wear white or any other bridal colours!

Dress comfortably

If the wedding is going to be held in the UK, it is worth keeping an eye on the weather forecast. Choosing an appropriate outfit can be hard, so you might need to think about layers.

Finding the perfect wedding guest dress is the foundation of your whole outfit. For evening weddings, a thicker fabric may be necessary to keep you warm through the ceremony, whereas a lighter fabric might work if it is a midday ceremony in the sun.

You will want to have fun at the wedding, so make sure your outfit is comfortable and easy to dance in. This will help you enjoy the whole experience.

Accessorize thoughtfully

Accessories are a great way to elevate your look without being too flashy – that way, you don’t distract from the bride and groom. You will need to think about the style of your dress. A high neckline, for example, may not suit wearing a necklace, but statement earrings will look amazing. The same goes for long sleeves and bracelets.

Don’t forget any hair accessories too. Whilst you may not want to use a fascinator, you could add decorative hair clips or pins to heighten your hairstyle.

Be mindful of cultural or religious considerations

Weddings are based on a great deal of historical traditions around the world, and while you may not take part in them, it is important to be mindful.

Some cultures would prefer guests to have their shoulders covered and wear longer-length, more modest dresses. If that is so, the bride and groom should make it clear. If you have any questions, be sure to ask them. They will appreciate that you are trying to be as respectful as possible.
