Son Jung Wan always attracts a colorful and stylish crowd to her runway shows at New York Fashion Week, and this FW’20 season proves to be the same! Like the crowd, her collections offer an exciting eyeful of bright colors, patterns, and heavy textures. As I browse backstage in the early afternoon of Friday, February 7th 2020, awaiting the 4pm showtime, I felt like a kid in a candy store observing bright reds, sparkly metallics, and faux fur-trimmed shoes with a clear block heel!
The 42 look show, called “Over the 50’s”, began with a punch of bright green in both men’s and women’s garments. It moves into a variety of 50’s vintage mood colors like olive, beige, sky blue, bright red and white, with warm winter materials like wool, tweed, faux leather, cashmere and quilt..along with metallic copper silk, gold sparkling sequins, ruffles, and puffy sleeves. The collection displayed both flow and structure and the models displayed this with such grace on the runway. Make-up for the show was by KimRose Eastburn for Bobbi Brown and hair was by Jorge Luis for Milbon.
Son Jung Wan’s first boutique opened in Gangnam, South Korea in 1986. Her brand was officially established in 1989 and by 2010 she was running 37 shops in department stores in Korea. Son Jung Wan has been showing her fabulous collections at New York Fashion Week since 2011 and I don’t think she’s stopping any time soon.
