There are several unavoidable facts of life; one of the biggest ones is that our bodies are constantly aging. Unfortunately, one of the most visible signs of this is the appearance of our skin; whether it’s acne or wrinkles, it can seem like a never-ending battle.

Aging aside, factors such as the sun and weight gain/loss can dramatically affect your skin, and taking care of it becomes all the more imperative. To have better-looking skin, you need a good skincare routine.

Whether you’re around hundreds of people every weekend at cosplay conventions or you simply want to look your best around friends, family, and coworkers, there are a few tips you may want to incorporate into your care regimen.

Lack of Sleep & Your Skin

It may not have any effect, but without regular, quality sleep, you can appear paler, have dark circles under your eyes, have less elasticity in your skin, and see an increase in wrinkles and fine lines. The first stage of your skincare routine is working to promote better sleep.

Getting at least 8 hours of sleep each night is important because that’s when your body works on skin restoration. Here’s a quick breakdown:

  • Hours 1-3 – Somatotropin is produced and contributes to maintaining youthful and healthy skin. Inadequate production accelerates the aging process.
  • Hours 4-5 – Melatonin production increases and helps protect the skin from damaging free radicals by working as an antioxidant.
  • Hours 6-8 – REM sleep occurs, skin temperature decreases, and collagen production increases. This makes skin more supple and smooth and removes some fine wrinkles.

Consider incorporating blackout curtains, a hybrid mattress, and a sleep schedule to help you fall asleep faster and increase the overall quality.

Take Care of Your Face

Your personality and attire aside, like it or not, your face is responsible for a big part of your first impression. The first thing you should do in the morning and one of the last things you must do at night is washing it. Wet your face with warm water, rub a small amount of gentle cleanser between your palms, lightly massage it all over your face, rinse off, and gently pat yourself dry with a clean towel. Try to use an exfoliator twice a week to ensure that you are removing any dead skin cells from your face and clearing the gunk out of your clogged pores. Keeping your skin’s moisture barrier is also crucial to preventing breakouts, so ensure that you keep your skin hydrated with the necessary products.

Additionally, you want to elevate your style and skincare. In that case, try vitamin C serum in the morning, as it has antioxidants that protect your skin from free radicals. A moisturizing serum with hyaluronic acid at night can help keep your skin from drying out, and there are eye serums to help battle those dark circles.

Thwart Summer

Even if you’re not a fan of the beach or outdoor activities, your skin can take a lot of damage from the sun. Just as you likely always have it on your summer travel checklist, you must regularly use an excellent daily moisturizing sunscreen that is at least SPF 50.

Suppose you’re just driving to the office or spending a couple of hours mowing the lawn. In that case, a single application is generally adequate, but apply it multiple times if you’re outside for extended periods.

Taking care of your skin is generally easy, and failing to give it proper attention can result in a less-than-desirable appearance. Avoid unnecessary dryness, wrinkles, and fine lines by working on your skincare to make it as routine as brushing your teeth, and you may be surprised by how fast you see noticeable results.
