New York Fashion Week: Spring 2014 Trend Report

Another New York Fashion Week has come to a close, and it’s time for our fashion eyes to turn to the runways of London Fashion Week, but first, let’s take a look back at some of the biggest trends seen in New York.

COLOR
Beige & White
Or should I say the absence of color.  Many designers during fashion week, showed collections that featured beige & white garments moving from the traditional bright colors seen in the spring.  

Safari tans, pastels and dark hues of purple, blue and green were also popular choices for the designers. 
THEMES
Safari seemed to be a popular trend for Michael Kors and Rachel Zoe, combining tans, khaki & leather into nice silhouettes.
Fierce Female – I like to call this trend the warrior princess of fashion. Any woman wearing any of these garments is going to come off fierce and powerful.  There’s no way around it.  You will exude confidence just by donning any of these looks presented by Herve Leger, Alon Livne, and Falguni & Shane Peacock.
FIT
Good-by short and too-short hems! Skirts & Dresses will be longer and will arrive in a variety of silhouettes: drop-waist, pencil, a-line, hi-lo, sheath and more.
PRINT 
Of course the popular trend of mixing prints that has been around for years will continue to be huge theme for Spring.  Changing is the type of prints and how they are constructed.   Florals are moving from big flower prints to tiny florals giving a more sophisticated and chic feel to the Noon by Noor runway.  Stripes will remain, but may find competition from garments in plaid.  Prints are also appearing more structured and less abstract, following precise rows and columns. Designers also favored the use of mirror imaging of prints on their garments.
 
HAIR
Braids – We saw everything from fishtail braids to conrows, crown braids, and bun braids.  Braids will be the hair story of Spring.
