Frederick Anderson, fresh to the scene as a namesake designer, offered a new experience during New York Fashion Week. Interviewer, Melissa Shea, got an exclusive interview with Frederick to get the latest scoop his the debut collection for his namesake brand.

The ambient location of his presentation was warm and dimly lit with candles. Every turn, mirrors reflected white walls, and a DJ mixed towards the top of the steps where the collection was showcased. Mannequins with 80’s hairstyles wore the clothes. His collection offered new prints, beautiful rich colors, and unique textiles.
Melissa asked him about his collection full of detail and unique textiles, “My background as I started off is in couture. I have all of these vendors of people I have been working with for years. What I love about them is they’ll do almost anything and take the challenge. I kept talking about the idea of these open baskets in Western Africa, because really Western Africa was my concentration here like the New Guinea area. So I started talking about the open baskets, and said how about we take the cross grain out of it and leave the threads hanging?”
From the detail of the textiles to the silhouettes, Anderson succeeded in his debut. I think we can expect many more great things from this designer in the future.
