Dorm Must Haves

Dorm Must Haves for Back to Campus Shopping

In Student Mingle by Elle Scalzo

When you move into a dorm for your first year you tend to bring too many things you don’t need and end up realizing there are items you’d really wish you would have brought. These dorm must haves are great for any college student.

Top 5 dorm must haves, no matter where you go to school!

  1. A robe and shower shoes. When you move into your dorm everyone reminds you to get a shower caddy, but they often forget two helpful items. If you live in a dorm with communal bathrooms or a suite with several other people you will thank yourself for getting a cheap pair of flip flops to assure your feet aren’t touching the floor. Also it is much easier carrying your shower supplies when you aren’t worried about your towel falling off so make sure you bring a robe. You will thank yourself later.
  2. A Coffee Maker. Most dorm buildings allow for single cup coffee makers and this is a must. As a college student you will adapt to a strange schedule most likely and that means lots of caffeine to help your odd sleep habits. Also, having your own machine will save you a lot of money rather than buying Starbucks everyday.
  3. A Desk Lamp. You and your roommate will most likely have completely different daily routines and schedules. Having a desk lamp will assure when your roommate has an 8 a.m. class that you can stay up and study without disturbing them with the overhead light.
  4. A small vacuum. No matter how hard you try to keep your room clean you will need a vacuum of some nature. You probably don’t realize how much hair you will actually lose on your cute rug you bought and having a vacuum will make it super easy to clean up.
  5. A mattress pad topper and extra set of sheets. If you listen to any advice on this list let this be it. A dorm must have, is a mattress pad topper. The dorm room mattresses are a slight upgrade from sleeping on a floor and that’s as good as they get. A mattress pad topper will make your entire body thank you. (Most dorms have Twin XL beds). The extra set of sheets will come in handy because you will likely do laundry and not want to wait to have sheets back to lay on your bed. As a college student you will spend a lot of time in your bed, so assure it is comfy and clean.
