Dan Liu Brings James Bond to New York Fashion Week 2018

In Fall & Winter Trends, Fashion Designers, Fashion Week by Mariana Aguilera

Fashion may mean different things to different people, but one thing we can all agree on is its ability to communicate. Dan Liu at New York Fashion Week, opened up his show not just addressing the current women generation with a black leather lining millennium pink long cashmere jacket, but also addressing the women before us with his theme The Spy Who Loved Me—named after Ian Flemming’s novel and the 10th movie of James Bond series in which for the first time a woman plays a lead role as a spy along side Bond.

Behind the Designs

As the series of pink on black background looks came out on the runway, one has to do a bit of detective work to find Dan Lou’s inspiration of this retro era—that’s actually quite refreshing. The scarves around the head and big black glasses were a given—a popular look of that time, recall Jackie Kennedy? The minimalist silhouettes with button details was another hint. And, how can we overlook the short-length dresses that communicated rebellion?

Dan Liu at New York Fashion Week knows well that the bond women of today fills many roles throughout the day and she’s no longer in hiding. She’s in the frontline making things happen for herself, and he makes sure to offer pieces of clothing for every role. We saw office-suited sheath dresses, after work cocktail dresses, weekend bomber jackets, and ladies nights suited dresses because we have to at some point all sit at the table, take what we know, and allied with our present generation to keep solving this this puzzle of inequality.
