The Barbara Tfank NYFW Collection for SS 2017 was presented at the Leila Heller Gallery in NYC’s trendy Chelsea neighborhood. This venue was certainly one worthy of the lauded designer. Tfank’s star-studded client list includes the likes of Michelle Obama and Adele. Her prowess was evident in the empowering designs showcased on this day.
Tfank mentions a recent trip to Sevilla, Spain, and the textures and colors that she saw there as an inspiration for this collection. The mixing and matching of lace and patterns was heavily present as well. For the Barbara Tfank NYFW collection, the designer states that she wanted the clothes to make women “feel great”. This was a thought that one of her models concurred with, when the model stated that the dress she was wearing made her “feel sophisticated and ladylike”.
Barbara Tfank launched her label in 2001, and has certainly made her mark in the fashion industry. While her looks fit in seamless on NYFW runways, Tfank resides in West Hollywood, California with her husband Peter Markham. He heads the Directing Department at The American Film Institute Conservatory.
“One big costume party”, Tfank joked in reference to the mood at her NYFW presentation. The designer spoke with us about her experiences being invited by Mrs. Obama as a mentor to the first Fashion Workshop at the White House. At this historical event she, with about 15 other designers and 20 other industry professionals, spent the day working with children at the White House.
As the gallery filled and the models posed for a couple dozen photographers and other attendees, it was evident that Tfank’s ideals of sophistication radiated throughout the room. Next time you watch an awards show or a head of state visit keep your eyes peeled: You may see one of Barbara Tfank’s dresses.
