Albright College made an emphatic return to New York Fashion Week on September 9 for a fashion show. Known for its nationally ranked Liberal Arts-based fashion design, merchandising, and costume design program, Albright College proudly showcased the innovative creations of five graduates and one current senior on the esteemed New York City runways.
The show commenced with Freddy Diaz‘s collection, a fusion of floral elegance and playful polka dots. Diaz’s opening look featured a floral pleat neck tank top paired with terra cotta pleated wide-leg trousers. A floral tie-front top and a polka-dot camp shirt paired with floral shorts were introduced. The standout creation was a terra cotta wrap halter maxi dress inspired by the designer’s Dominican Republic heritage and the bustling streets of New York City.
Following Diaz, Susie Benitez, known as “Susie Buttons,” displayed her collection, blending contemporary elegance with timeless details. Her showcase featured vibrant creations such as a yellow jacquard floral blouse matched with a dirndl skirt, a green floral halter top coupled with capri pants, and a blue floral jacquard camisole top adorned with feather-trimmed cigarette pants. The centerpiece of her collection was a floral jacquard bustier top dress with detached blouson sleeves and a full ball gown overskirt.
Next, Philadelphia native Jasmin Burton took over to showcase effortless and boundless creativity with versatile pieces. Her collection included a retro-cut one-piece swimsuit layered under lavender chiffon and a ruffle-tiered negligée cover-up.
Designer Nicholas Kedge returned with an avant-garde collection of short dresses featuring cut-out details, racer front and back designs, and unique pom-pom ornamentation. His designs were a harmonious blend of traditional patternmaking and hand-draped elements.
Queens native Victoria Aquino followed, exuding grace with unique touches. Among other designs, she presented a sleeveless, bustier maxi dress with hand-painted detailing and a high-collar trumpet-sleeve white lace wedding dress.
Senior Zyaire Valentine made the show close with bold textures and styles. Standout pieces included a yellow skirted ball gown paired with a black hologram tuxedo overcoat, a striking black hologram plaid taffeta coat, and a hot pink taffeta asymmetrical ballgown.
Albright College’s presence at New York Fashion Week reaffirms its position as a formidable force in the fashion education landscape. Jacquelyn Fetrow, President of Albright College, emphasized their mission: “At Albright College, we aim to harness the transformative power of education to unlock the potential of all our students.
