Wearing makeup in the summer almost seems like a lost cause. Sweating all your makeup off, especially while you’re having summertime fun with no time for touchups, is a hassle. For all of you FashionMingle.net trend setters and style mavens out there, I’m sharing my summer makeup tips and favorite brands with you.
Step 1: Base
For face makeup that lasts all day it’s important to wear a primer underneath. Try Urban Decay’s Pore Perfecting Primer. It masks pores and extends the wear of your makeup.
Next, try wearing a tinted moisturizer instead of foundation like Laura Mercier’s Tinted Moisturizer which contains SPF to block harmful UV rays . It’s nice to wear something lighter for summer time and let your natural radiance show through! Nikolas K’s models sported a lighter base for the Spring 2014 Collection on the New York Fashion Week runway.
If you prefer minimal coverage, skip the foundation and tinted moisturizer and just powder your face to mattify your skin.
TIP: Don’t forget to powder your t-zone and underneath your eyes for extended wear and so your concealer doesn’t crease.
Step 2: Eyes
To keep eye shadow from creasing, wearing a primer underneath it makes it smooth and last much longer. Try bareMinerals Prime Time Eyelid Primer. It’s a personal favorite!
Cream eye shadows are my all time favorite for summer festivals or when traveling to places where I know I’ll be gone all day. Try the Maybeline Color Tattoo in a light shimmery shade. Light shades on the eyes make them look bigger and is on trend right now as seen backstage Trina Turk’s Spring 2014 Collection at NYFW.
TIP: Layer your cream shadow with a powder shadow on top to make it last even longer.
Step 3: Lips and Cheeks
When it comes to layering your eye and face makeup, the same goes for lips and cheeks. Layer your products to increase longevity. Do you see the trend yet? Layering your summer makeup is key! For cheeks try a cheek stain like, Becca Beach Tint for a natural flush that looks like skin. Tints tend to already last longer than regular powder blush, but again layering a powder one on top will help even more.
For summer, I like to keep my makeup simple by wearing a tinted lip balm or just plain old chap-stick. If you’re trying to look extra special, lightly fill your lips in with a lip liner or stain and layer a similar color lip gloss or lipstick on top. Try the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains in Cherish for a strawberry lip like the models in the Cynthia Rowley Spring 2014 NYFW runway show.
TIP: Applying lip products and blotting them and then re-applying also keeps lip color on longer.
Remember that layering your products is the key to making your makeup last all day, but also try to keep it light for the summer time. Summer is all about that natural beauty showing through! Share your beauty tips and favorite trends with the FashionMingle.net Team today in the comment box below.
