Mara Hoffman Mixes Bohemian Glamor and Minimalism for Fall 2014

In Fall & Winter Trends, Fashion Designers by Jessica Faith Marshall

On the heels of my first photography experience for FashionMingle.net in the Rebecca Taylor press pit, the team and I dove right back into the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week tents to capture moments from Mara Hoffman‘s Fall/Winter 2014 Collection.

Entering the tents, I happened to pass by the iconic fashion blogger Bryan Boy and CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund 2011 runner-up jewelry designer Pamela Love. Anticipation for Mara Hoffman’s collection was strong as the large audience was seated in the salon. Standing a few feet away from the runway, my experience suddenly felt real. I was no longer following Mercedes-Benz runways on a small screen but up-front and center to photograph it.

Music set the tone as the first model walked out in a very traditional Mara Hoffman tribal print. The designer’s “glamorous Gypsy” signature designs were to be expected then suddenly, a black gown with patchwork and black sheer insets portrayed a laid-back yet powerful attitude. The gown was of sophisticated elegance. The looks following the gown consisted of printed chiffon, beach-inspired silhouettes, low-cut “v” necklines accompanied by skinny straps, and tribal prints.

After a fourth of the way in, another shocking black number was presented on the runway. The look was a full length jumpsuit consisting of a geometric structured strapless bodice and sleek bottoms. I felt drawn to her upcoming looks with white silks, ruffled detailing, modern minimalist fringe, over-sized silhouettes, and full monochromatic looks in sleek slimming fits. It was refreshing to see a new direction from Mara Hoffman in this collection.
