Welcome to another season of extraordinary Fashion. That’s right! New York Fashion Week officially kicked off February 6th with designer collections for Fall & Winter 2014.  Ironically, many fashion week visitors experienced actual wintery conditions in addition to viewing winter fashions.  However, the snowy, cold weather did not stop our team from fulfilling their media coverage duties!  Arriving safely in Manhattan & bundled up our team went right to work.  Photographers, Jane Kratochvil and Maryna Marston covered Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week shows at Lincoln Center, while Melissa and Ching headed to Hotel Pennsylvania for Plitzs NYC Fashion Week.  They were on hand to cover Faith by Jessica runway presentation.  Jessica Faith Marshall, the designer behind Faith by Jessica is 14-year olds and a contributor to FashionMingle.net (FM).

Taking a look back at the coverage provided by our FM NYFW Media Team, the following sums up opening day trends of New York Fashion Week.

THE TRENDS
COLOR

Popular colors for the day were black and white, burgundy, rich hues of green, purple & blue, cream/off-white, browns and greys.  BCBGMaxAzria added pops of pastels to their collections with peach and teal stripes on black and white garments.  They also went back to an old favorite: color-blocking.

FABRIC & MATERIALS
Wool, Leather, Suede & Fur.  BCBGMaxAzria had fun with fabric blocking, sewing together suede, leather, & fur into one look.

STYLE & FIT
Tadashi Shoji showed us that laser-cutting may never go out of style. One after the other, his impeccable, laser cut designs came down the runway giving an illusion of lace overlays.  BCBGMaxAzria favored the Caftan silhouette and some asymmetrical hemlines on their skirts and dresses. They seemed to incorporate splits wherever possible. Todd Snyder’s menswear collection focused on slim fitting pants that landed just above the ankle.  Remember when high-water pants were a no-no? Not anymore! Nicholas K, stay true to their edgy aesthetic but kept their models bundled up with exaggerated turtlenecks, infinity hoodies & beanies.

ACCESSORIES
Nicholas K had fun with their accessories by using rope for some wrist action, while Desigual favored leather gloves.  Tadashi Shoji’s earrings almost stole the show, while Mark and Estel’s hats took center stage!
