We had a busy first day at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week! Somewhere between attending multiple shows, capturing backstage footage, interviewing designers, & capturing street-style looks, we managed to go through all of this content and present to you our take on Spring 2014 trends seen at MBFW Day 1.
COLOR: Marking a change from previous seasons, the focus on bold & bright colors for Spring has been replaced with neutrals & pastels. Designers used an ombre affect for their presentations, sending the first models down the runway in lighter pastel hues that transitioned to blacks and military hues of blue and green. This trend was omnipresent across the board in multiple shows, from Nicholas K & Candela to BCBGMaxAzria.
FIT: The silhouette for females are moving from skinny and tight or boho loose, to slightly loose & fitted giving an overall more relaxed & classic chic feel to the season.
MAKEUP & HAIR: Braids will once again be a popular choice and were the number one style presented on the models, from fishtail braids at Nicholas K to intricately woven 6 stranded bun-braids at Supima. In addition to braids, that “just-tousled” beach hair will remain constant. As for makeup, natural is still the number one choice for Spring. Models wore makeup that enhanced their natural tones, giving them that fresh, sun-kissed look with subtle lips.
PRINTS: Prints will always be popular for the Spring, and the ever popular mixing print trend will still be around, but a new way of displaying them will be the focus: Pop of Print, versus entire garments in bold prints, as presented by Tadashi Shoji & Marissa Webb. Expect to see the popular stripes pattern make a transition to plaid for popularity.
FABRIC: As always leather will be back this spring as entire pieces (shorts, skirts) or garment trimmings, and one can never have too much chiffon, lace, & tulle in their Spring wardrobe!
