Leanne Marshall Proves She’s More Than a Project Runway Winner.

Returning to Skylight as Clarkson Square on a cold rainy Sunday afternoon I was filled with excitement as I made my return to cover another season of Leanne Marshall’s beautiful NYFW collections. Leanne Marshall was the Season 5 winner of Project Runway in 2008 and has steadily grown her worldwide reputation as a fashion designer to watch and a favorite at New York Fashion Week.

With a long list of celebrity clients such as Carrie Underwood and Ariana Grande, Leanne Marshall also designs for television and editorial, however at the end of the day strongly caters towards what she calls her favorite client, the real woman. Marshall’s collection of gowns pushed the limits of convention by featuring stripes, bold colors and shapes with soft textures.

Leanne Marshall quickly became a personal favorite of mine after being captivated by her Spring / Summer 2016 collection last season. As her Fall / Winter 2017 collection made its way down the runway, it was clear to me that this collection would top the last. Models draped in beautiful gowns with only the most precise cuts and seams, fitting each girl perfectly. The collection featured a color palette of neutral tones, accented with black and gray and deep red with a flowing, ethereal presentation that in a sense, represents the designer, herself.

The movement of fabrics and motion of fashion is something that hypnotizes me and I often cater to in my editorial work.  As the show drew closer to its end, one last collection of evening gowns made a show-stopping debut. The gowns were resplendent in soft lilac and the use of lace and silk were undoubtedly the most unique designs I’ve seen this season.

The collection flowed down the runway with the most detailed of designs and execution, Leanne Marshall’s Fall/Winter 2017 collection echoed with romance and exquisite execution. After covering her show in September 2016, my expectations were high and were more than met. Leanne Marshall is a name in fashion that will keep me watching to see what she is doing next and I look forward to her evolution in fashion and the world.
