American fashion designer Elizabeth Kennedy presented her Autumn/Winter 2017 Collection at New York Fashion Week at Pier 59 Studios on Sunday, February 12th. This lovely presentation ushered us to a tropical locale as the models took their positions on the famous Pier 59 CYC wall wearing glamorous gowns interpreting some of the world’s most tropical birds. The American made collection featured a color palette inspired by the Gold Headed Quetzel and Ruggiana Bird of Paradise. The Apo Sunbird was another creature of nature that inspired some of the exotic textures, such as sequins and feathers, of this collection.
The 20 pieces were shown in a rotation of 10 models at a time, switching every 10 minutes, creating a continuous flow that allowed the audience to serenely move through the presentation. Palm leaves set the mood and a feeling of island tranquility filled the room.
Elizabeth Kennedy launched her brand in 2012 and instantly gained recognition by industry publications such as VOGUE, Harper’s Bazaar and Women’s Wear Daily. and Celebrities who have worn her label include Laverne Coxe, Drew Barrymore, Uzo Aduba, Malin Ackerman, Mindy Kaling and Tina Fey. Elizabeth Kennedy gowns are well known for their classic, yet fresh approach to evening wear. In a recent interview with Kennedy, she told us that she produces her collection in the New York Garment District. “With evening wear, I need to see it and drape it and work with it. I can’t just send it off and have it shipped back in a box. It doesn’t really work.” says Kennedy. Her collection can be found at Bergdorf Goodman in New York, Harvey Nichols in London and online at Moda Operandi .
