Plitzs Fashion Showcase: New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2016

In Fashion Week by Patrick Hovan

After I received a surprise invite from Plitzs Fashion Marketing, the day had finally arrived. I was set to enjoy my first New York Fashion Week show as a V.I.P. guest for showcase number three!

I arrived at the Hotel Pennsylvania on 7th ave. and made my way to the top floor leading to the showing room. The Elevator door opened to a scene of fellow attendees waiting for seating, as well as streams of individuals running around and working the show meticulously ensuring that everything was in order.

I was keenly aware of the four designers being featured in the showcase. My excitement grew as show time drew nearer. After walking up to the check-in desk to give my name, I was quickly seated in the front row at the end of the runway, also known as the prime spot, awaiting the start of the show.

The show began. The first outfit of JRock Ginger by Vanessa Irino took to the runway. Irino, hailing all the way from Texas to New York City, brought life to her designs with intricate fabric work and incorporation of textures. Statement piece after statement peace walked before me, in a carefully planned performance. As the first designers wrapped her collection, there was a small pause before the next designer took the runway.

Canadian designer Judith Chiasson’s collection, La Gamine, followed. A combination of color and floral patterned fabrics were used in a sleek classic design. Chiasson’s collection didn’t skip out on its use of textured fabrics and addition of design elements to each piece, making each “La Gamine” ensemble stand out on its own.

Chiasson went above and beyond to create a visually compelling collection to further treat the eager crowd with a second collection. Inspired by an Easter egg given to her daughter a few years ago, the designer created pieces intricately crafted from colorful candy wrappers. At the conclusion of the show, each model stopped on the runway and faced the crowd to toss out candy, which added an extra token and ode to the entire collection.

Candy-Rock Couture by New York’s own Harmony Corbett was up next, and what a collection is was. Taking the term “statement piece” to the next level, Candy-Rock Couture was a sight to behold. Each piece was complemented with smaller design elements such as large lollipops and colored mugs, none of which distracted from each outfit. Each piece was made beautifully for the individual models. Driven with attitude and color, Harmony Corbett’s Candy-Rock Couture was top of my list for the showcase; perfectly done in every way, it was truly a treat to watch.

The final designer of the showcase was A.D.NA.MA Nampahc by Amanda Chapman in her New York Fashion Week 2016 debut. Her designs were more modern, accented with unique prints and bold colors- a perfect combination for a spring/summer collection.

Based in Georgia Chapman’s vision, the designer imbued ensembles that highlighted the house of Adnama as more than a brand, but a lifestyle in which it is perfectly acceptable to be to allow yourself to feel comfortable and confident in your own skin.

Overall, it was an honor to be invited to the Plitzs showcase for the Spring/Summer 2016 collections. Each designer showed beautifully crafted collections and true passion for the art of fashion and design. I will always remember this particular showcase as an extremely creative fashion show, as well as being my first show invited as a V.I.P. guest, experiencing the dazzling spectacle of it all, from the front row.

As this season’s fashion week begins to wind down, I look forward to what Plitzs has to show for NYFW Fall/Winter in February 2016!
