Remote Productivity

5 Useful Techniques for Remote Productivity

In Student Mingle by Ryan Thomas

COVID-19 has massively affected the way in which society operates. Here are 5 tips for remote productivity to help navigate the new realities of learning and working from home.

  1. Create a routine. Make a schedule for yourself and stick to it. As hard as it may be to resist staying in pajamas and lying in bed all day. Creating a daily schedule will allow for higher productivity and grants time for necessary tasks ultimately alleviating potential stress.
  2. Find a designated space. Identify one space in your home for getting work done. Bedrooms are for relaxation, not work; it is hard to be at your utmost productivity when you are surrounded by a space used to bring you personal peace. Instead utilize the kitchen, living room, or any other room that allows you to work productively.
  3. Give yourself time for work and dually time for yourself. Try to be conscious of how much time you spend working given that work and home life are so convoluted. If it is late at night or on the weekend make sure you are not overextending yourself by constantly checking emails. Continue to maintain boundaries and support your mental health during these unprecedented times.
  4. Maintain healthy habits. As tempting as it may be given we are all at home, try not to give back in to unhealthy habits. Maintain a sleep schedule and take time to go outside. The simplest forms of self care will reflect in your work ethic.
  5. Try to be flexible. Remember that these new ways of life are not permanent. The world is constantly and rapidly changing; therefore, try to be as flexible and patient as possible when it comes to remote working and learning.

Remote jobs, internships, and learning are a reality that we are all facing right now. It is important to remember that this will not be our reality forever but in the meantime there are techniques for remote productivity that can be exercised in order to make it all a bit easier.
